So, the title of this blog post is probably pretty misleading since what I’m about to tell you is not impacted in the slightest by your child’s ability to perform calculus equations in his or her head. However, it was inspired by a new movie released in theaters on April 7, 2017 called «Gifted» staring Chris Evans a.k.a. Captain America (I just had to name-drop seeing as my little boy is «El Capitan’s» #1 fan). 🙂
Before you read any further, check out the trailer (it will give you a better sense of why I am writing this blog post):
Simply put: If you want to have a say in how your child is raised (including how the money you left for his or her benefit is used)… WRITE IT DOWN… and no… some jottings on a napkin won’t do. Just like you would take some time out of your busy schedule to take your baby to a doctor’s appointment, schedule some time to sit with an Estate Planning Attorney to devise your just-in-case-plan. Like my father always says: «Es mejor prevenir que tener que lamentar.» In essence, that’s the Spanish equivalent of «It’s better safe than sorry.»
